Aon.com Re-design and Re-platforming

A new flagship for a Global insurance powerhouse.

Case Study

THE PROBLEM

Aon is a large, multi-national insurance and professional services company. They have offices in almost every country worldwide and a headcount of over 50,000 people. Their annual revenue is over $11B, and they’re looking to drive continuous growth of that revenue by more than 10% year over year.

But they also have dozens of websites, creating a fragmented presence full of dated information and inconsistencies. To scale revenue, they’ll have to leapfrog the competition. And to do that, they’ll need to be as polished as big firms like McKinsey, EY, and Deloitte.

THE APPROACH

After an initial round of stakeholders interviews, I dove into strategic conversations with our Aon Product Owner and the project steering committee to define their business objectives. Through these OKRs, we crafted a vision for a “problem solving library” prospective clients could explore and recommended a new backend CMS plus static site combo to serve content.

Then, the combined design and development teams crafted an atomic design system resulting in 70+ modular components and variants that fit Aon’s business needs.

THE SOLUTION

Together with Aon, we defined a robust MVP, including 22 unique templates that supported content from reports to articles, lead capture forms, search integration, and a backend tag taxonomy to automate content throughout components. We launched an internal Beta in just 6 months, then facilitated Aon’s content authoring efforts, penetration testing, performance testing, and legal review processes to launch publicly in July, 2023.

THE IMPACT

  • 58% lift in page views in first month

  • 214% faster page load times

  • 300+ unique pages launched

  • 12 contact forms simplified to 1

  • 1,000+ leads driven in first month

REVIEW FROM THE TEAM

“First and foremost, strategically, Spencer may be one of the most gifted Product Managers I've worked with at Huge. He's able to navigate difficult client conversations, brilliantly handle competing priorities, and always does so with a smile on his face and a great attitude. He's willing to embrace ambiguity, he's willing to challenge clients, and he's willing to push the team to their limit to get the best work done.

If I could, I would steal Spencer for every single project I lead.”
