THE PITCH
Invoker is a competitive two player duel designed to be completed in less than 10 minutes. Players each embody elementalist apprentices who first seek to gain knowledge of air, earth, fire, and water, then must choose to master or one or all before their opponent. Each card has two effects, a destructive “Command” ability triggered by discarding it and a constructive “Channel” ability that advances the player towards elemental mastery.
To win, you must strive for balance.
MY ROLE
Initially I was inspired to create Invoker by an informal Magic: The Gathering game form called “Lands”, but the concept quickly took on new life through playtesting. I crafted each of the card effects, then designed a game system to let them clash, emphasizing strategic player agency through the dual card effects. I also took on the role of art director and graphic designer for this project, partnering with Bonny John to bring the illustrations to life in vivid detail
