Spiral Gate
A simultaneous tactics RPG.
Development
THE PITCH
Our goal with Spiral Gate is to fix everything that’s always bothered us about tactics RPGs. Turns should be engaging, fast, and dynamic, allowing players to do more than walk up to enemy units and hit them. In summary, we want to make a slow motion soulslike — a game that rewards patience, observation, and learning with satisfying combat feedback.
MY ROLE
I’ve been crafting the combat system for Spiral Gate, dipping my toes into game UI design, and learning my way around the intricacies of Unity’s asset management connections to set up character models and their animations. My partner, Travis, built our combat and AI systems from scratch, and we both have pushed on adding juice to this combat prototype. My role has also including managing our tasks and priorities to focus on building the prototype for maximum value to testers.

GAMEPLAY & SCREENSHOTS
Observe enemies.
Enemies display their attack intent and potential tiles to move to during their turn.
Throw actions.
Player units have modular actions that cover different tiles and cost unique stamina values.
Wreck enemies.
By learning enemies’ patterns, players can start to predict which tiles and attacks they’ll use. Then, they win.
